Actual Lives
Actual Lives Austin - Disability Culture with a Texas Twang
Since August of 2000, Actual Lives Austin has been making theatre with a focus on the lived experience of disability. Now in its seventh year, Actual Lives continues to be Central Texas' own and only ensemble dedicated to crip theatre with attitude. Sponsored by VSA arts of Texas, Austin's award-winning Actual Lives Austin is a motley crew of disabled performers who make comic yet thoughtful theatre from the raw material of everyday life. Trying hard not to be inspirational, Actual Lives Austin pokes fun at things that are supposed to be serious, speaks publicly about things that are usually private, critiques popular culture, and generally tries to stir things up.
